Safety in the Work Place

The safety and well-being of our personnel at work are of outstanding significance and important for the success of the company. They are therefore a goal ranking alongside product quality and economic success.

Management and the works council work together to promote the aims of safety and health protection at FSG. These aims include the following:

• we want to avoid all injuries, accidents or work-related sickness, each employee receives in-depth tuition in work safety and in safe and healthy behaviour,
• through regular inspections and external audits we will check the effectiveness of work safety and health protection measures at FSG in order to constantly improve them,

FSG emergency management will be regularly checked and improved, along with a professional work safety specialist, there will also be available at all times designated safety personnel, the company doctor, a company first aid service, designated fire personnel, personnel with breathing protection equipment, evacuation and fire personnel as well as a high angle rescue team. They will be active in a preventative capacity but will also be able to act in an emergency.

Energy Management

All equipment utilisation is planned not only with production efficiency in mind but also taking into account energy consumption. Electric drives have frequency converters. Big power-using plant is fitted with smooth start-up equipment. All relevant consumption points are fitted with measurement devices so that fluctuations or the effectiveness of measures already undertaken can be checked.

Filter Technology

The FSG operates three plasma cutting plants and uses primarily MAG welding technology in production.

Suction systems remove all dust created during this process and collect it with the aid of filter systems, fulfilling all legal requirements.

The dust is concentrated in closed systems for professional disposal.

Emissions

All equipment at FSG which emits pollutants is monitored as required by the rules governing emissions. This monitoring includes verification of the technical condition of the plant concerned and the transfer of relevant pollutant emissions.

Our shipyard has taken all possible technical measures to stay within the legal guidelines.

Sound-absorbing drive and filter systems and filtration plant cater for the successful integration of the yard as a heavy industrial facility within the town of Flensburg – something we are in favour of.

Conservation

Exclusively high-value products from well-known coating manufacturers are specified, which reliably protect against corrosion and thus promote the longevity of our ships. For underwater coating, of course, TBT free antifoulings are used. On external areas as well as in tanks and cargo holds only epoxy-resin coatings, which are low in solvents, are used while water-based coatings are used in the internal areas. The systems used are certified and allowed.

Conservation takes place exclusively under controlled circumstances either in the blasting and coating hall, on the covered slipway or on board ships.
